Chibuike Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, has presented updates on the Abuja-Kaduna railway.
The south end of the train was recently destroyed by explosions caused by criminals and insurgents, according to the DAILY POST.
The bandits also killed a number of passengers and kidnapped others for ransom, forcing the operation to be halted.
"We have put security in place so that those who will travel as soon as they (NRC) resumes (train service on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line) on the 23rd will not face issues," Amaechi said at a consultative meeting with delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Tuesday night.
We've negotiated with the Air Force that they'll fly above the trains and shoot anyone they see attempting to harm the rails.
"People who have no business on the track should keep away because they will shoot if they notice anything suspect."
Amaechi, who resigned as Minister of Transportation on Monday to focus on his presidential campaign, said the train line selections were made before he quit.
Meanwhile, gunmen suspected of being terrorists blocked the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on Tuesday and kidnapped numerous passengers.
The operation, according to witnesses, lasted more than an hour without the presence of security personnel.
