Many groups of Anambra State youths have petitioned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to reverse its decision to open the presidential ticket contest, citing it as an insult to the South, particularly the Southeast zone.
During a rally, the teenagers wore white T-shirts and delivered a position paper to the state party leaders on the issue.
They had gathered in Awka's Ekwueme Square and danced their way through the streets to the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) secretariat at Udoka Housing Estate.
Mr Ikechukwu Anonye, the Anambra State Coordinator for Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) and coordinating chairman of all Peter Obi Support organisations, told journalists at the PDP secretariat that the position paper is addressed to Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the party's national chairman.
"Today's solidarity walk is to let the PDP know that we are aware of the schemings going on in the party and that we are aware that the PDP has a constitution that supports presidential rotation between the North and the South," he stated.
"Now that the South, specifically the Southeast, is in charge, we're hearing that a committee has met and declared it open to all." We believe it is a form of discrimination against the Southeast.
"We want them to return to the Southeast or the South in general, and we know they have the option to do so." Except for the Southeast, every other zone has had a shot at the presidency. PDP should forget about it if they do not do the right thing.
