Following Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final first-leg 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge, Joe Cole has criticized Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger.
Cole chastised Mendy and Rudiger after Real Madrid scored a third goal as a result of their blunder.
With Chelsea losing 2-1 in their Champions League last-16 first-leg clash, Mendy and Rudiger failed to clear the ball, allowing Karim Benzema to clinch his hat-trick against Thomas Tuchel's team.
The error allowed Real Madrid to extend their lead at Stamford Bridge, giving the Champions League holders a mountain to climb when the two teams meet in the second leg next week, and Cole conceded the two players made a 'poor' decision.
Cole commented after the game on BT Sport: "The next goal in the tie is critical." Going to Spain and overcoming a 3-1 deficit is a tall order.
"At halftime, Tuchel switched to a back four and looked a lot brighter and sharper." Individual errors are one thing you can't account for.
