Breaking: Sultan has set Monday as Eid-El-Fitr.

His Eminence, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto, has declared Monday to be the first day of Shawwal.

After receiving no positive sighting claims from members of the National Moonsighting Committee and other Emirates, the Sultan made the proclamation.

"The Sultanate Council of Sokoto has declared Monday, February 5, 2022, as the first day of Shuwal 1443 AH," Mallam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, Secretary of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), said in a terse statement on Saturday night.

On Monday, the first day of Shawwal, Muslims in the country will celebrate Eid-el-Fitri.

Arc. Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu, the NSCIA's Director of Administration, issued a statement on Friday urging Muslims across the country to watch for the new moon of Shawwal on Saturday.

Ramadan will continue in Saudi Arabia and a few other nations around the world on Sunday, according to the Daily Trust.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Supreme Court stated that because the Shawwal crescent was not seen on Saturday, Ramadan will continue on Sunday.

On Saturday, the oil-rich kingdom also announced that Muslims in the country will observe Eid al-Fitri on Monday.

The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain, among others, have announced that Eid al-Fitr will begin on Monday, May 2.

The crescent moon's appearance on Saturday would have signalled the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal on Sunday.
