Representative for Nasarawa North Senate District, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, announced his resignation from the Senate on Monday.
Following his election as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 26, he submitted his resignation letter to the party's headquarters.
Adamu has stated that his resignation will take effect on April 1, 2022.
The Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, read the letter aloud at the plenary session on Tuesday, according to the Senate website.
Among the praises for the Senate President's charismatic leadership were the following words from Adamu: "I must thank you for a charismatic leadership in which you treat all Senators equally irrespective of party difference."
Before his resignation, Senator Abdullahi Adamu served as the governor of Nasarawa State for two terms and as a senator in the Senate for three terms.
Following Senator Adamu's resignation, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was expected to hold a by-election for a replacement within the three-month statutory period.
