Bandits have attacked some houses in Anguwar Maji, Jere town, on the Kaduna-Abuja highway. They took 22 people hostage in the process.
The bandits came into the area just a few days after the IGP, Usman Baba, went to the highway to see how things were going there.
A source, who told bendelnews that the kidnapping happened on Sunday night, around 11pm, said that the kidnapping happened in the night.
When the bandits came to his area, he says, they attacked some homes and took about 22 people, including five women.
When the bandits came into town, some of them wore security uniforms and attacked the villagers in large groups.
He said that the bandits went from house to house and woke their victims up before they marched them into the bush at gunpoint. He said that the bandits worked in the community for more than an hour without being seen.
According to the source, the bandits started shooting a lot while leaving the community with their victims and leaving the town alone.
He said that one of the 22 villagers who were taken by the abductors escaped while they were taking them into the woods.
