Shiekh Nuru Khalid, the Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque in Abuja, reacted to his suspension on Sunday, citing his criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Only God has the power to enthrone and dethrone, according to Shiekh Khalid.
The Islamic scholar had chastised President Muhammadu Buhari's government for the current state of insecurity in Nigeria.
If the government fails to safeguard Nigerians, Khalid has advised people to boycott elections.
The mosque committee suspended him after his sermon.
Senator Saidu Dansadau, the committee's Chairman, said the Imam's statement was "inciting" and might generate public indignation.
"God is the most powerful," Khalid posted on Facebook in response to the news. He bestows (enthrones) and takes away (dethrones) power on anyone He pleases.
"Oh, my God!" You give sovereignty to whom you please and seize sovereignty from whom you please, you honour whom you choose and abase whom you please, all good is in your hands, certainly you have control over all things," says the ruler of sovereignty.
