Augustine Eguavoen, a former temporary head coach of the Super Eagles, has stated that he did not endorse the decision by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to fire Gernot Rohr as the team's permanent coach.
Eguavoen took over for Rohr in December, ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in January.
The former international disclosed on Monday Night Football that he had expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of Rohr's departure from the team.
Despite the presence of another former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba, in the studio, Ikpeba declined to place responsibility on Eguavoen for the country's inability to qualify for the World Cup in 2022.
Ikpeba remarked that the National Football Federation (NFF) should take responsibility for the Eagles' absence in Qatar.
"Eguavoen did not endorse the decision to fire Rohr," the statement said.
"Yes, I protested about the timing because it was too near to the Africa Cup of Nations," Eguavoen agreed, adding: "Yes, I complained about the date because it was too close to the Africa Cup of Nations," Ikpeba agreed.
