Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has accepted that his country will not join #NATO, which was one of Russia's demands before the invasion.
According to a translation of his remarks made via video connection at a meeting of the leaders of the #United #Kingdom's Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in #London on Tuesday morning, March 15, Zelensky conceded that Ukraine's NATO membership would not materialise.
"We've heard the contrary for years, open doors," he remarked, according to the #Ukrainian news portal Trukha.
"Our people realise this, and we're starting to rely on our own resources," he continued.
"We realised that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO," #Zelensky said, according to Nexta. We are aware of this, and we are capable individuals."
"Kyiv requires new forms of engagement with the West, as well as distinct security assurances."
