Political parties' presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and state assembly campaigns will begin on the dates set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on September 28, 2022, gubernatorial and state legislature elections will take place on October 12, 2022.
The dates were announced at the first quarter press briefing on the ongoing voter registration by Hajiya Asmau Sani Maikudi, Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC Kaduna.
Sani stated that political parties' presidential and National Assembly campaigns will end at midnight on February 23, 2023, while gubernatorial and state assembly campaigns will end at midnight on March 9, 2023.
Sani responded when asked if inmates would be permitted to vote in the 2023 elections:
“It is at the discretion of the National Assembly. If it is a law, INEC has no option but to implement the law and once it is passed by the National Assembly, people in correctional centres will be allowed to vote.”
