Cocaine Deal: I'm Guilty, Abba Kyari's co-accused pleads guilty to drug trafficking charges

On Monday, a minor drama unfolded in the Federal High Court in Abuja when two co-defendants of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari pleaded guilty to a portion of the serious drug trafficking allegations levelled against them.

Despite their guilty pleas, they were held in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) until Monday, when their bail application will be heard.

The Federal Government, acting through the NDLEA, charged Abba Kyari, six police officers, and two civilians with an eight-count conspiracy, obstruction, and cocaine peddling and other connected offences.

While Kyari and three other defendants pleaded not guilty to all eight counts, two civilians, Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, pled guilty to the fifth, sixth, and seventh accusations in which their names appeared.

Following the defendants' plea, counsel for Abba Kyari, Kanu Agabi (SAN), and counsel for the other defendants in the case sought for their clients' admission to bail.

Meanwhile, the trial Judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, adjourned the case until Monday to consider the defendants' bail motion and ordered that they be detained in the custody of the NDLEA.
