The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has disclosed why it arrested Willie Obiano, the state's immediate past governor.
According to sources, the former governor was apprehended by the anti-graft agency on Thursday night at the Lagos International Airport while attempting to flee the country.
This development occurred just hours after he handed over control to Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the state's new governor.
Wilson Uwajaren, the commission's public relations officer, confirmed the arrest in an interview with BBC Pidgin.
Obiano was on the EFCC's watchlist prior to Thursday's transition, according to the commission's spokesman.
"Obiano has been on our watch list for some time now," he explained. As a governor, he enjoyed immunity, which is why we have been unable to apprehend him until now.
"He lost his immunity today and was on his way out of the country when we apprehended him."
