A fake address of Zelensky's surrendering shared on social media.

On social media, a bogus video of President Volodymyr Zelensky calling on Ukrainian troops to lay down their arms has been circulating.

Despite the fact that his lips move in time with the music, Zelensky's head appears to be out of position, and his voice does not sound like his.

Earlier in the day, a still from the false video was posted on the website of Ukrainian TV channel Ukrayina 24, and the message's content was briefly carried on television.

In a statement, Ukrayina 24 announced its website and ticker had been hacked. The website had been offline for a while, however it has now been restored.

In a video posted on his Instagram, Zelensky dismissed the address as a hoax, adding that he "can only recommend that Russian military lay down their rifles and return home."

The video clip was most likely created with deepfake technology, which alters video footage with realistic results by substituting one person's face with another.
