General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, a former military president, has stated that Nigerians are today expressing hostility toward autocrats, mediocre, ethnic champions, incompetent, and visionless characters in the country.
Senator Iyorcha Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and members of the National Working Committee paid Babangida a visit at his Hilltop Mansion in Minna, Niger State.
The former military leader spoke from a prepared speech about the necessity for party leaders to seize the moment in order to effectively manage the difficulties of competitive party and electoral politics in the direction of pursuing politics as a public-interest endeavour.
"If we have failed to manage the complexity of competitive party and electoral politics sufficiently since independence," he remarked. We now have a golden opportunity at a fork in the road to pursue politics as a public-interest initiative, in accordance with the moral and constitutional provisions of Nigeria's constitution, articles 13 and 14.
Senator Ayu had previously stated that he had travelled to the elder statesman with members of the NWC and party officials in order to get his blessings and to benefit from his wealth of knowledge and wisdom as a founding father of the PDP.
He said the visit was important, especially at a time when the country is facing many security issues and divisions.
The PDP's national chairman urged IBB not to give up on his efforts to ensure that the country's unity, which he battled so hard for, be preserved.
