Jose Peseiro will no longer be in charge of the Nigerian national team, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Only a week after Augustine Eguavoen was appointed as the Super Eagles' interim coach, the federation named Peseiro as the team's permanent coach.
Before Peseiro took control for the 2022 World Cup playoffs against Ghana, Eguavoen was tasked with leading the three-time champions to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The NFF, on the other hand, has kept Eguavoen as head coach, as well as bringing in former international Emmanuel Amuneke to help him.
"In light of the Super Eagles' positive performance at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations, which has given hope to Nigerians and boosted our confidence in the current coaching crew to qualify us for the World Cup in Qatar, we have decided to accept the recommendation of the
Technical and Development Committee to retain the Eguavoen-led coaching crew and strengthen it with the addition of Dr. Mohammed Sanusi," the NFF General Secretary said in a statement on Monday.
