A United States District Court for the Central District of California has postponed the sentencing of Nigerian fraudster Ramon Abbas a.k.a Hushpuppi until July 11, 2022.
After Hushpuppi's lawyers, led by Louis Shapiro, filed a request for a postponement, Justice Otis D. Wright approved the order. During the time of the postponement, he is anticipated to remain in detention.
Hushpuppi was initially slated to be punished on February 14 for defrauding people across continents to the tune of millions of dollars, according to LIB. Last year, he pleaded guilty to the allegations in exchange for a reduced sentence.
Hushuppi faces a 20-year prison sentence, a three-year supervised release period, and a fine of $500,000, or twice the gross gain or loss resulting from the offence.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was also ordered by the same court to arrest DCP Abba Kyari, the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, for his suspected role in a $1 million scam allegedly conducted by Hushpuppi and five others.
