Gunmen kill 4 cops in Enugu

Armed hoodlums shot and killed four police officers on stop-and-search duty on the outskirts of Enugu city.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Saturday in Obeagu, along the Amaechi-Ekeotu-Agbani Town Road, leaving the road deserted until 7 p.m.

The latest attack comes just two days after security policemen in Enugu State were slain.

"Police operatives have been promptly dispatched and are on the trail of the unknown armed assailants," said the state's Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, who did not specify the number of casualties.

Armed hoodlums arrived in a Sienna sedan and a Lexus Jeep and opened fire on the surprised police officers on duty, according to some tricycle operators who spoke on the condition of anonymity to NAN.
