Only a change of position, according to Arsenal great Ian Wright, can save Nicolas Pepe's career at the club.
Pepe has fallen short of expectations since arriving from Lille for a club-record £72 million transfer in 2019.
Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Gabriel Martinelli have all beaten him to a spot in Mikel Arteta's lineup.
Pepe has only made five Premier League starts this season, with his finest showings coming in the Carabao Cup, when he scored two goals and added four assists in three outings.
The Ivorian prefers to play on the right side of the field, which allows him to cut inside with his better left foot.
Wright, on the other hand, believes that a reorganisation of positions is necessary.
"Up to this point, he's (Arteta) not used Pepe in any way that makes me think he's got affection for Pepe," he said on his Wrighty's House podcast.
"I'd want to see anything from him," says the narrator. When you watch him at the AFCON, I believe the defender's job is even more difficult with those individuals because of how athletic, good, and intellectual they are.
"You have to do a lot more, and if you look at him, he's already done it." Why aren't we able to acquire such information from him?
"If that means playing him as a false nine or in a position where he's free to get on the ball and run at people, then so be it."
