Following Palmeiras' 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, February 12, a fan of the Brazilian soccer powerhouse was shot and killed outside the club's stadium.
Investigator Cesar Saad of the Sao Paulo police department told press that a suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting. He went on to say that 15 additional fans were hurt in battles with police or among themselves.
After the match, the unpleasant incidents happened on Palestra Italia street.
The 42-year-old victim was shot in the thoracic region, according to the police. He was in critical condition when he was taken to the Hospital das Clnicas, but he died there.
Chelsea won the Club World Cup for the first time with a penalty goal in extra time against Palmeiras. Kai Havertz, the German midfielder who scored Chelsea's winning goal in the Champions League final last season, converted a penalty kick.
