A Man To Be Hanged over killing of twin brother.

Mr Anyanime Festus was condemned to death by hanging by the high court in the Akamkpa judicial division of Cross River State.

Anyanime willfully and gruesomely murdered his 11-year-old twins, Mfoniso and Emediong Anyanime, in 2017 after branding them witches, according to the court.

Today, Honourable Justice A. A. Onyebueke handed down the verdict and found the defendant guilty.

When cross-examined, Anyanime, who is in his 50s, was unable to justify his accusation of witchcraft against his daughters.

According to Mr. James Ibor, a child rights activist whose Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BCRI) assisted in the prosecution of the accused, the crime was initially reported in February 2017, leading to the convict's prompt arrest by the police following a thorough investigation.

The police conducted appropriate medical examinations and autopsies on the deceased youngsters, according to the findings, which aided the decision.

Ibor hailed the decision as a major success for the victims, as well as the Cross River State government.

He claimed that throughout the state, witchcraft branding and ritual murdering had become a popular activity.

Remember that the UN has asked countries to take action against abuses related to witchcraft beliefs and ritual sacrifice.
