Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari will choose the next presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Because he is the leader of the ruling party, Buhari would choose the APC's presidential candidate, according to Zulum.
On Friday, he addressed members of the Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG), led by its chairman, Dr Aliyu Rabiu Kurfias, in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The delegation was in Zulum to support Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's presidential ambitions.
Osinbajo is expected to run for president in 2023, according to reports.
But, through his Media Aide, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo has refuted such allegations.
Individual ambitions, on the other hand, must be compatible with APC's existence, according to Zulum.
"Borno State will cooperate with the party's leadership, members of the National Assembly, and leaders at the ward and state levels to ensure the actualization of decisions made by President Muhammadu Buhari, the de facto leader of the party," Zulum said.
"I am a strong supporter of activities aimed at strengthening our party's unity and advancing Nigeria.
"At this critical juncture, no one, and nothing, will stand in the way of the party moving in lockstep.
"We need to find the appropriate people to lead the country, and this will need collaboration from governors, party leaders, and the president."
"Individual desires may have to be suppressed since we must all agree with our party's leader's decision."
