Nightclubs and prostitution are prohibited in Port Harcourt, according to Governor Wike.

Nigerian Governor Nyesom Wike has declared nightclubs and prostitution illegal in the state of Rivers.

During his New Yesr broadcast in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike outlawed nightclub activities, as well as midnight trading and street prostitution, notably along Abacha road and neighbouring streets, particularly in the Casablanca area, among other things.

According to Wike, the move will "prevent the detrimental impact of these perverted practises on the moral development of children and society as a whole."

The exact duration of the restriction is still unknown, but the Governor has fewer than two years left in office, thus it is likely that it will be lifted soon.

To make matters worse, Wike has ordered security services in the state to arrest and prosecute anyone who attempts to break the prohibition. He stated that a taskforce would be established in this regard.

In 2023, the Governor Wike-led administration will come to an end with the conclusion of the general elections.
