Breaking:Eguavoen resigns from his position as Super Eagles coach following the team's elimination from AFCON 2021.

Until further notice, Augustine Eguavoen has resigned from his position as interim coach of the Nigeria national team.

This comes after the Super Eagles suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in their round of 16 meeting at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau had all been defeated by the three-time champions, and Eguavoen had led them to three straight victories.

In the knockout stages, they were unable to overcome a Tunisian team that had been afflicted by Covid.

"What follows is that I am appointed as the Nigeria Football Federation's interim coach and technical director" (NFF).

Afterwards, Eguavoen stated that he would "return to my position" and allow the National Football Federation (NFF) to determine the best course of action.

Eguavoen took over as interim coach after Gernot Rohr was fired last month. The National Football Federation, on the other hand, announced Jose Peseiro as the new permanent coach before the AFCON took off.
