The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, has announced that the online registration period for the ongoing 2021 police constable recruitment has been extended until Saturday, January 22, 2022, to allow Southerners to apply.
Mba said the extension was needed "to ensure equal opportunity and even spread of applications, particularly from states in the South-East, South-South geopolitical zones, and Lagos State," according to a statement released on Wednesday.
The extension, he said, would allow the southern states to meet their quota requirements for their respective states.
According to Mba, just 1,404 applications (less than 2% of total applications) were received from the five states in the South East out of the 81,005 applications received nationwide as of January 7, 2022.
Only 261 people applied from Lagos State, according to MBA, and only 158 people applied from Anambra.
As a result, the Nigeria Police Force has appealed to states, local governments, religious organisations, and other interest groups in the South-South, South-East, and Lagos State to organise and urge their people and wards to join the Nigeria Police Force.
