The University of Ibadan has been named the top university in Nigeria by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The University of Ibadan has been named the best university in the country, according to the National Universities Commission's 2021 ranking, which was released on Monday, December 13.

Prof. Peter Okebukola, the lead presenter at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund's capacity building workshop on improving the ranking of public universities in Nigeria, said the ranking involved 113 universities throughout the country and 12 factors.

The universities were ranked based on the total number of full-time students, the number of international students, the student-to-staff ratio, efficiency, the Google Scholar index, and their contribution to the knowledge economy.

Other factors include the percentage of international staff, full-time accreditation programmes, and all citations per capital.

Okebukola admitted that certain universities did not participate in the ranking and encouraged them to do so in the future.

He stated,

Nowhere in the world can you find a rating system that does what Nigeria has done." The University of Ibadan is #1 for the 2021 edition, based on the 12 factors we developed, followed by the Federal University of Technology Akure."
