Nigeria's ruling elites are not prepared to reform the country. Jega -

Professor Attahiru Jega, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has claimed that after years in power, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) are not ready to reform the country.

On Monday, December 13, Jega said this in a Zoom interview with Toyin Falola, adding that Nigerians have experienced major setbacks at the hands of the two parties and a group of elites who are not ready to reform the country.

According to former INEC Chairman, the country's development trajectory must be changed in order to rescue the country as a whole.

He stated;

There is no question that the country's ruling elites are incapable of making it a better place. They've been in power for a long time, and nothing has changed. The two major parties, the PDP and the APC, have effectively slammed the door on excellent and capable people entering the leadership structure.

"They only offer people from their camp chances to continue dominating us." And this has deterred many people, particularly young people, from getting involved in politics; they believe it is always a terrible thing.

"As a result, capable people who recognise the need to shift our development trajectory and save the country as a whole are in high demand."
