Dowen College: Falana has requested that the police summon blogger Kemi Olunloyo for questioning about her'reckless' comment on Sylvester's death.

Femi Falana (SAN), a human rights lawyer, has petitioned the deputy commissioner of the Lagos police command to invite Kemi Olunloyo, a controversial blogger, over a comment she made about the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni Jnr.

When one of Sylvester's relatives lamented his death on the microblogging platform Twitter a few weeks ago, it sparked public outrage.

He claimed that the young boy at Dowen College was tortured to death because he refused to join a cult.

Nigerians have been outraged by news of Sylvester's death, with many pleading with authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In connection with the death of the deceased, operatives from the Lagos State police command have questioned five people.

In response to the events, Olunloyo claimed that the deceased drank engine oil as part of the cult's initiation process, and that Oromoni was not bullied.

Olunloyo reiterated on an audiotape that the late Sylvester Oromoni, who died in questionable circumstances at Dowen College, wanted to join the boy's gang and drank engine oil.

Nigerians reacted angrily to her remark, with many condemning her for making such a remark about the deceased, who is unable to defend himself.

Meanwhile, Falana demanded an investigation into Olunloyo's remark in a petition signed by Taiwo Olawanle, a lawyer with Falana & Falana Chambers.

Olunloyo's remark, according to the human rights lawyer, has exacerbated the pain of the deceased's parents and family.

Falana requested that the police invite Olunloyo to explain her "false information" and that she be charged in court if she is unable to back up her claim.

"Although the students and staff of the college suspected of playing a role in Sylvester Oromoni's brutal murder have made useful statements to the police, one Ms Kemi Olunloyo has just introduced another twist to the incident," the petition reads.

"Ms Olunloyo claimed that Sylvester Oromoni wanted to join the cult and agreed to be beaten and drink engine oil as part of the initiation process, according to a false statement attributed to her."

"Ms Olunloyo recorded her false statement and has been spreading it on social media in a malicious manner in order to divert attention away from the police investigation."

"Apart from attempting to smear Sylvester Oromoni's name, Ms Olunloyo has exacerbated the tragedy of his parents, family, and friends for no apparent reason."

"Even if Ms Olunloyo's reckless assertion was a fabrication of her imagination, we believe she should cooperate with the authorities in the current inquiry into the reason of Sylvester Oromoni's death."

"As a result, we feel compelled to ask the police to look into Ms Olunloyo's allegation of false information being circulated about the gruesome circumstances surrounding Sylvester Oromoni's death."

"Ms Olunloyo should be charged with false information in the Lagos State Magistrate Court if she cannot substantiate her reckless allegation."
