 Reason I refused Osinbajo's invitation

The famed Nigerian comedian Debo Adebayo, better known by his stage name Mr Macaroni, said on Friday that he had refused an offer to meet with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

On Wednesday, a group of skit performers paid a visit to the Vice President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The trip, which was organized under the auspices of the Nigeria Skits Industry Awards, was led by Bimbo Daramola, the organization's promoter.

Some fans, on the other hand, have criticized the comedians who attended the visit, while others have questioned Mr Macaroni's absence from the event.

In response to questions about his absence, the comedian indicated that he was dissatisfied with Nigerian authorities, which led to his unwillingness to accept the invitation.

"First and foremost, I do not believe there is an association of skit creators," he stated. If there is such a thing, I am completely ignorant of it.

"Thus, I do not believe that those who went to visit the Vice President without me or anybody else intended to sideline me. Just as I was invited by the organizers of an Award Ceremony, I'd like to imagine that they were also invited to visit The Vice President. The only difference is that I did not accept the invitation this time.

"The reason for my refusal is straightforward. As a citizen, I am dissatisfied with our political leaders and do not wish to be associated with them. It's OK if others feel that sitting with the government would bring about positive changes and decide to give it a try. I don't believe they should be crucified as a result of their actions.

"I've just seen and heard too much to believe that the government doesn't see and hear everything." They, as well as their employees, are always connected to the Internet. They are aware of our grievances and complaints, yet they do nothing to address them. So, what will be the result of sitting down with them and telling them what they already know?

As a follow-up, the comedian added that if any politician wanted to engage them, he would choose a public location where all members of the press would be present so that he could express himself to the general populace.
