Nigeria's terrorism problem can be solved by the application of mathematics.

University of Ilorin mathematics professor, Prof. Olabode Bamigbola, has proposed that Nigeria might utilize mathematical optimization and a scientific method to handle its insecurity problem.

According to Bamigbola, this was mentioned on Friday during the 207th Inaugural Lecture of the institution, which was entitled: "Making the Best Use of What You Have: The Mathematical Approach."

The don, who is a professor at the university's Faculty of Physical Sciences, has recognized that insecurity is one of the main obstacles to the realization of our national life's potential.

Terrorism, banditry, abduction, and herders' problems, among other things, were on his list. He also included unemployment, economic concerns, and an inconsistent electrical supply.

His contention is that the mathematical and scientific methods to problem solving may be used to resolve any and all of these issues.

"Techniques of mathematical optimisation can be used to improve the economic fortunes of a country," explains the author. Discovering how the United States, Russia, China, India, and South Africa have advanced their national growth through the use of mathematics is astounding.

"Price fluctuations may be kept under control by managing important elements in our economy.

"Mathematical Optimisation employs two fundamental tactics to ensure system improvement and waste removal: optimization of the system and waste elimination. In his opinion, "policy and practice should be avoided that are detrimental to progress and growth."

An expert in mathematics, on the other hand, has remarked that the country's continual power outages are an indication of the country's underdevelopment.

As he noted, interruptions in electrical supply not only cause process and service delivery to be disrupted, but they also serve as a warning of the myriad hazards that might befall a community in such a situation.

In his opinion, the Nigerian government should mobilize support in order to provide a reliable supply of energy to the country.

As part of his recommendations, Bamigbola called for frequent review of mathematics curriculum at all levels of education, with the goal of keeping up with the rapidly growing frontiers of mathematical knowledge in terms of idea, content, technique, and adaptability, among other things. (NAN)
