Nigeria: Governor Stabs A Colleague To Death In Bayelsa

Akpoboloukeme, a police officer, popularly called Governor akpoboloukeme, is presently on the run after stabbing one of his colleagues to death.

Ben Okolo, the Bayelsa commissioner of police, verified this on Friday, identifying the victim, Sapele Eyeridideke, as a police officer as well.

Okoko stated that he has ordered the detention of the suspect, Akpoboloukeme, as well as an investigation into the incident.

In a statement released on Friday, Bayelsa police spokesman Asinmi Butswat said the incident occurred on November 4 in Edepie, Yenagoa.

Over a "small misunderstanding," Akpoboloukeme, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, allegedly stabbed Eyeridideke to death.

Before being apprehended on the East/West route, the suspect is claimed to have fled the scene and attempted to flee to a neighboring state.

An eyewitness told NAN that the two police officers, who were identified as "cousins," had attended a wedding ceremony at a prominent hotel in Yenagoa, where the deceased made a joke while seated at a table.

The suspect was alleged to be annoyed by the joke, and the confrontation nearly escalated into a brawl when friends interfered and attempted to resolve the matter calmly.

However, when they left the venue, Akpobolokeme allegedly followed Eyeridideke to a private location and stabbed him in the left section of his rib cage with a knife, killing him instantly.

The body had also been deposited in a mortuary, according to the witness.
