In a speech to commemorate Nigeria@61, the governor of Kano State stated that he believes Nigeria is a united and indivisible country, which the constitution has already addressed.
In the midst of a power struggle between the governors of northern and southern Nigeria, Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje warned his colleagues on Friday not to divide Nigeria over a topic that was solely about political parties.“I don't see secession as a way out of the current challenges facing the nation,” Ganduje said. Instead, I advocate for dialogue as a critical means of resolving such issues.”
“The recent problem between northern and southern governors, as I previously mentioned, is unfortunate,” he said. Because a situation in which the governors of one region use derogatory language toward their colleagues in the other region is anything butuncivilized. That has nothing to do with civilisation.the issues at stake are varied, some of which can be resolved, while others are political party issues.”
“The constitution has not mentioned that power should shift from north to south,” the governor continued, “but it has been a tradition in the country to have power zoning.” And this zoning is a political party's strategy. Each political party must develop a plan for getting elected.”
“If you believe a change in leadership will bring you votes to win elections, you have not violated the constitution,” he added. The constitution is unaffected if you believe you can keep power in this country indefinitely and win elections. As a result, I believe that political parties should be in charge of resolving this issue. We can't have two rival factions as governors.”
As a result, he summoned the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum to "convene a meeting of the governors' forum so that we apologise to each other for making unflattering remarks about each other on a strictly political issue." That is my position on the matter.”
“Another issue that brought the dichotomy is the issue of open grazing,” Ganduje said in response to the herdsmen crisis. Each state has the authority to enact legislation, and each of these states is unique. What is a problem in one state may or may not be a problem in another. As a result, states have the authority to enact legislation through their state legislatures.
It is unfortunate, as I have been saying, that the issue of open grazing has brought a lot of controversies,” the governor said. Trekking from the northern part of the country to the middle belt, central part of the country, or south is unacceptable to me. To me, it is criminal because the children will be unable to receive an education.
