Dave Umahi, the Governor of Ebonyi State, has stated that the Igbo people should be given an opportunity at leadership in 2023 since the South-East wants to work for Nigeria's peace and unity.

Instead of a separatist Biafra, the governor declared that the Igbo will be a part of a fair and equitable Nigeria.

The statement was made by Umahi during an interdenominational prayer summit organized by the Governor's Wife's Office in cooperation with the Christian Association of Nigeria in Abakaliki on Friday (CAN).

We want to be a part of a Nigeria that is just and equal," Mr Umahi continued. Nobody needs to be afraid of us. We shall work with God to restore peace to our land. We will work with the people to build the love and unity of the country.

"Treat us fairly," the governor continued, "since we have contributed greatly to the foundation of this nation."

Umahi stated that the South-East deserves whatever opportunities other geopolitical zones have, adding that "what is good for other areas should be good for the South-East."

"And let me be clear," the governor said, "zoning or no zoning, party or no party, the South-East must not be schemed out of the affairs of this country."

Earlier, Rachel, the governor's wife, praised President Muhammadu Buhari's wife, Aisha, for organizing the prayer summit, which was aimed at seeking God's face to restore peace in the country.

Our gathering is to seek the face of God over the nation's security concerns and other problems,” she added.

“We can fight the growing incidence of homicide, armed robbery, abduction, and other violent crimes in our country by praying constantly.

She stated that the meeting was held in accordance with Mrs Buhari's instruction to seek divine intervention in the nation's long-standing security issues.

The event's sermon was delivered by Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, Chairman of CAN's South-East Zone and Senior Special Adviser to Ebonyi Governor.
