#TOKYO2020OLYMPICS: Nigeria medalist awarded $10,000 and $17,500 respectively

The federal government has given a gift to Blessing Oborudu and Elese with $ 10,000 and $ 17,500 each to win a medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Brume and Blessing Obodururu each gave Nigeria Bronze and silver in the match.

The federal government has announced a prize of 15,000 dollars, 10,000 dollars, 7,500 dollars for gold, silver and bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics.

A statement on Wednesday said the athletes presented their money prizes by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Boraven Sunday, at a ceremony held at the Grand Prince Hotel, Tokyo Japan on Tuesday.

The minister was quoted as saying, "There is no point in delaying the strengthening of these athletes who have made the country proud, that's the reason they are valued immediately for shows that break their record."

Reacting, Torududu said, "I just excited and I want to thank all my supporters and the Nigerian Federal Government for encouragement."

Chioma Ajunwa was the first person to win a gold medal for Nigeria for a long time since Atlanta 1996, Brume followed a suit with bronze, while Torududu was the first Nigerian wrestler to win the Olympic medal.

The 25-year-old Nigeria was placed behind American Brittney Reese who claimed the silver medal with a leap 6.97m.

Brume must be satisfied with bronze because of the second best effort 6.67m lower than Reese 6.81m.

Malaika Mihambo Germany won the golden event medal, after saving her the best for the last, by taking victory from Reese with the best leap of the 7.00m season.

Oborudu had to be satisfied with the silver medal in the Women's 68kg Freestyle event on Tuesday in the Tokyo Olympic wrestling competition in Tokyo.

This was after he failed to overcome the Stock Tamyra Mensah, who had defeated him three times before, after losing 1-4 in their last match at Makehari Mess Hall.
