A lawsuit has been launched against Apostle Johnson Suleman, founder of Omega Fire Ministries, by YouTuber Israel Balogun, alleging that he was wrongfully arrested and detained.

In a letter dated August 11, 2021, with reference No. CR: 3000/FHQ/SEB/ABJ/T3/VOL.3, signed by ACP Y. Y. Abubakar of the Special Enquiry Bureau of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID), Area 10, Abuja, Balogun was invited and subsequently detained. Balogun runs the Wholeness Africa Initiatives channel on YouTube.

On the other hand, he was accused of criticizing Pastor Johnson Suleman, who claimed to have issued orders instructing angels to deliver and deposit miraculous money into the bank accounts of select followers.

He scrutinized and condemned a video from two different church programs, one held in Atlanta, USA (titled 'Impact 2021') in July and another held in Auchi, Edo State Nigeria (titled 'Holy Ghost Conference 2021') in June of the same year. The video in question was titled 'Harvest of Miracle Money', and Balogun critiqued and condemned it in one of his videos.

The suit has been joined by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of the Special Enquiry Bureau FCIID, as well as others.

Human rights lawyer and counsel for YouTuber Inibehe Effiong, Balogun, is asking the court to order the pastor to pay him N500 million in damages for his detention and violation of fundamental rights, according to a fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1390/2021 obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday. Furthermore, Inibehe requested that the court declare that the arrest and detention of his client by the 2nd to 5th respondents on the instigation of the 1st Respondent from 10:00 am on August 11, 2021, until approximately 6:30 pm on August 12, 2021, without being charged with a known crime, is unreasonable, unjustifiable, illegal and unconstitutional, and a violation of the fundamental rights to personal liberty and freedom of movement guaranteed by Sections 35 and 41 of the Constitution.

Apostle Suleman's followers have threatened to kill a YouTuber for exposing the cleric's miracle money scheme, according to reports.

A permanent injunction barring the Respondents, jointly and severally, from interfering with the Applicant's basic rights in any manner in the future by themselves, their agents, employees, operatives, detectives, or investigating officers, or by any other name they may choose, is sought.
